Michael Vick has been a huge liability to the Philadelphia Eagles offense this year. He is turning the ball over at an extremely high rate and is on the brink of being benched for the rookie Nick Foles. Three more fumbles by Michael Vick, and a fourth that was overturned on review because Vick was lucky that the defender hit his leg, meaning that the ground could not cause the fumble.

Vick had a terrible outing against the Steelers and was bombarded with questions after the game in the locker room regarding his lack of ball control. Vick couldn’t explain what was wrong today in a game where he fumbled three times and lost two

one thing that needs to be done quickly is the discipline in holding onto the ball. there is no excuse for being careless with the football inside the 5 yard line and losing it. This team needs to get its act together and focus on the little things or they will continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

Profootballtalk is reporting that Brandon Boykin of the Philadelphia Eagles has been called the weakest link by the Pittsburgh Steelers who are both playing this upcoming weekend. Blogging the bEast couldnt dissagree more with their article on how Boykin has not been the guilty one on allowing TD’s this season.

Brandon Boykin making a play of Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals.

“The Eagles are sitting alone at the top of the division at 3-1 right now with the first 1/4 of the season already over.  There is a lot that needs to be worked on and some things that are looking good so far.”

Andy Reid:  Demetress Bell is one of the weakest links on the team and was getting beaten pretty regularly in the first quarter.  Normally Andy would bootleg or run something else equally dumb in his direction, but instead he  got a couple designed qb runs to neutralize that pass rush.  A more balanced attack, much improved clock, and time out management, and HE ACTUALLY WON A CHALLENGE. Reid had a much more prepared team than last weeks showing, the Eagles are sitting alone at the top of the division at 3-1 right now with the first 1/4 of the season already over.  There is a lot that needs to be worked on and some things that are looking good so far

Michael Vick:  19/30 Att 241 YDS 1TD Smartly played game.  Vick played within himself, DIDN’T COMMIT A TURNOVER, and ran the ball effectively.  Hopefully this signals that he’s knocked the rust off.  His protection was spotty in the first half and he didn’t play superhero and he didn’t turn the ball over, much better game. Threw the ball away when needed and ran when he should have, overall very good game out of him.

Lesean McCoy:  23 ATT 123 YDS Good ol’ Shady had the type of game we expect from him.  Great elusiveness and he didn’t let himself get frustrated when he didn’t have much success in the first half.  He’s taken to diving at the end of his runs which I think will help him stay healthy all year. He really took over in the 2nd half and the Giants had no answer for him.

Special props to Desean Jackson seems much more focused.  No bad drops, great crisp route running, and he just seems much more mature than last year.

Kickoff Coverage: Absolutely horrible. nobody could stay in their lanes and people were running wild way out of position. This needs to be addressed quickly. The Eagles cannot keep giving other teams great starting field position every drive.

KURT COLEMAN:  I know the on going debate is it Coleman or Nnamdi jacking coverage up.  I think last night put that debate to rest.  Nnamdi doesn’t have the best makeup speed but he has great technique and knows his assignments.  If a safety is supposed to be playing over the top Nnamdi doesn’t have the speed to recover if he doesn’t get the help he’s supposed to.  Kurt bites on everything and teams like the Cowboys and Falcons will take advantage of that.  He has to play with more discipline.  This will be a great tape for him to review.

Boykin:  He’s one of my favorite new Eagles but his coverage on Cruz was less than spectacular last night.  It’s a tough assignment but it stood out to me a bit. He needs to do a better job of sticking tom his man and lining up quickly. I think he is still getting used to the game but he needs to step it up quickly.

Special un-prop to the pass rush.  After a great first quarter the pass rush disappeared.  Granted the Giants Offensive line was putting the rushers in obvious holds all night, but I expect Cole and the rest of the rotation to spend more time behind the line. After generating so many sacks last year from this line its a little of a disappointment to be sitting only at 7 on the season so far.

I began to look into other blogs with the same premise as the one I am trying to write about. I like the Philadelphia Eagles enough to start writing a blog about them so I figured that I should do it right. I recently went snooping around the internet and found a lot of blogs related to mine to see what kind of direction I would like to head in.

One of the blogs that I frequent a bit and find to be the most appealing is the bloggingthebeast.com site. now this site is not solely about the Eagles but more about the division that they play in. this blog likes to compare and contrast the different teams within the same division. Jimmy Kempski is currently the main writer for this blog as well as numerous other blogs that he writes for, mostly related to football. Kempski likes to focus on the overall divison rather than on the same team which I like because he has a different perspective on other teams and is not drinking the homer kool aid.

A blog that I like to go to but is much more focused on one team is www.bleedinggreennation.com. there are multiple writers for this blog like JasonB,  EliotShorrParks, and  JordanRaanan which helps gain different views on one topic. In this blog the writes like to break down every game and each takes a different outlook. A long with daily posts the writers also write for local news papers or other online websites. They like to link their work from the news outlets onto their blog which gives it more of a formal feeling to the reader. This blog is more frequented by commentors and the writers usually will chime in to which i think gives it a more personal feel to the overall site.

I really like this next blog because it’s much more professionally done than the rest. www.phillymag.com/eagles is written by Sheil Kapadia and Tim McManus who both write for local newspapers. The site has a more professional feel to it with a lot less advertisements than the other websites. The text is very nice on the eyes which allows readers to read more chunks of information faster. the main thing i like about this site is that it is an umbrella site connected to phillymag.com which is a full time local news source.

www.igglesblog.com/ takes a unique approach and likes to break down game film and show exactly what happened on each play. the style of the blog is different from the rest and seems to me like it uses a different platform. Tommy Lawlor is the main writer and he is also an amateur scout who goes all around the country and watches other players and grades them. this blog takes a more mathematical approach and uses graphs and charts to help explain things. this helps with reading lots of dense paragraphs that are filled with numbers, sometimes that can make your head spin.

www.birdsfan.com doesnt look like your average blog website. entries are written by people like Brennen Dickerson and Mike Burke who make it interesting  I like the setup that they have here with it having more of a news site feel to it. each post has a picture to accompany the entry which gives a little sneak peak about what the text is about. Then there is a small portion of the text that you can read but you must click on each article to view it in its entirety. there are some trade offs when you make it look more like a news site with not being able to just scroll down and read articles. its only a minor thing but some people prefer it different ways. the writers on this site dont have the deep credentials that a lot of the others do but this definitely is not their first rodeo.

overall i got to see that there are a lot of different ways that you can approach writing a blog and that each one is very different, it will probably be best if i can use a different element in each of the blogs and apply it to my own.

This is the first blog iv’e ever set up so bare with me as i am learning to use it as i go. First i want to start off and state the obvious about how i am and avid Eagles fan and love the sport of football so much that i decided to dedicate a blog about my favorite team. what i would like to do is follow the Eagles throughout the season (as i always do) and report my findings here and to also have general discussions about the Philadelphia Eagles. So please follow my blog and bare with me as i am just entering this new medium, feel free to comment as i always enjoy and encourage discussion.
